The Dancers

Garrett is a junior at Grimsley High School. He LOVES being the football team manager, working at the Whirlie Cafe, and being a part of JROTC.  He enjoys doing things with the youth group at his church, going to Smith Mountain Lake, working out, playing games, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends. He loves listening to music and dancing, especially with his sisters.

Jan had her first dance lessons as a young child and was a member of her high school drill team.  She was in the Dolphin Club, a water ballet team at the University of Georgia where she majored in Fine Arts/Art Education.

Jan and her husband Bill moved to Greensboro from Wilmington in 2016 to restore his grandfather’s old bottling plant and is co-owner this family-owned brewery and mother of five wonderful children.

She is honored to be asked initially by Ed Mulvey to be a part of the Dancing With Your Diamonds event.  Her family’s brewery, Oden Brewing Company, has donated beer for this event for several years.  She has so much love for The Arc of Greensboro and what they do for our local IDD community and their families.  She is happy to be blessed with Garrett as her dance partner and lucky to have him as her wonderful moon walk instructor.

The Choreographer

Tabia McKinzie, originally from Memphis, TN, now calls Greensboro, NC home. She holds a BFA in Performance and Choreography in Dance from UNCG and has performed locally and internationally across various styles of dance. As an advocate for people with disabilities, Tabia draws inspiration from her daughter Nandi, who has Turner Syndrome. Currently, Tabia serves as a Family Support Coordinator for Family Support Network of Central Carolina, providing services and support to families with a baby in the NICU and individuals with disabilities. She is also working on developing a dance program specifically designed for children who are deaf and hard of hearing. Tabia is thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to return as a choreographer for Dancing with our Diamonds.
